Researchers identify key factors for brain aging and dementia risk

New research suggests that factors such as diabetes, alcohol consumption, and traffic-related pollution may damage a part of the brain associated with dementia. The affected brain region is the last to develop in adolescence and the first to deteriorate in old age. The study also looked at genetic factors that could influence the effects of modifiable factors on dementia risk.
