Brain protein reelin proves to be a potential shield against Alzheimer's

A protein called reelin appears to play a key role in protecting the brain from Alzheimer's and aging. Higher Reelin scores correlate with better cognitive function in older adults. A rare genetic variant that increases reelin concentrations protects against an early onset of Alzheimer's disease. These results open up interesting opportunities for developing new treatments against Alzheimer's disease that increase Reelin levels or improve its protective effect in the brain.
