The resort, which has been family-owned for 44 years, was recently extensively modernized and now shines in new splendor. From the lobby to the rooms, a quarter of which are suites, the entire complex was designed in a contemporary modern royal style. Some suites offer special amenities such as hot tubs on the balcony or terrace, private saunas, and open fireplaces. Many of the rooms feature playful and luxurious interiors and offer a unique living experience.

A highlight of the resort is the breathtaking panorama, which has always been a special attraction due to its immediate proximity to the Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau royal castles. The unique secluded location in Schwangau, the village of royal palaces, offers an unobstructed view of the Allgäu mountains and the immediate proximity to the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle is simply something special.

Large water areas, including a 20-meter long outdoor pool, a large natural swimming pond and a second pond for naturist use after the sauna, make bathing and swimming a special pleasure. The spacious sunbathing lawn offers several sun loungers and cabanas, while inside the resort, several saunas, high-quality body and beauty treatments and an extensive yoga, fitness and sports program are available against the magnificent mountain backdrop.

We now have the opportunity to talk to Florian Lingenfelder, the owner of the resort, about the redesign and special offers of the König Ludwig Inspiration Spa.

Tell me something about the story of the König Ludwig.

October 4, 1980 was the birth of our house. Of course, even then it was very nice, spacious and comfortable. However, our hotel has only developed its special charm and character over the years with its guests.

It all began with a plot of one hectare. After almost 44 years, we are delighted to be able to call around seven hectares our own today. This is thanks to Werner and Birgit Lingenfelder, who created this basis for today's King Ludwig. The development of our house was always progressing. Developing, adapting, designing was always the credo of Werner Lingenfelder and his wife.

The next generation has been at work for several years now. I, Florian Lingenfelder, and my partner Julia manage the fortunes of this wonderful house together with a large team. Development and design are also in the blood of the second generation. In recent years, I have tried to enrich the König Ludwig holiday world with a number of attractions.

The house has undergone extensive renovation. Which areas are you particularly proud of?

Our company has been constantly evolving for more than 45 years. I've already seen a lot of big changes. Nevertheless, there are projects that have changed our company in a very special way, but have also shaped it.

In 2019, we took the second big shot and made the house shine in new splendor and with even more offers within just three months. Back then, from October to December, the last 32 rooms were completely renovated. The old reception with lobby was demolished and replaced by a completely new entrance area with right of way and reception. In addition, our lily lounge & bar by the lake has been enlarged by 1/3. We removed 1500 m² from our swan lake and turned it into two natural swimming ponds. Last but not least, we built a second outdoor infinity pool as a hot tub in Swan Lake. It was an exciting, instructive and intensive time. Seeing the result at the end fills you with great satisfaction.

The second groundbreaking project is the new and renovation of Ludwig Spa 2023 & 24. Here we have incorporated all the experiences and topics that are important to us in order to bring this spa into the here and now and ultimately into the future, not only in terms of style but also in terms of content. A spa is a special place. There is always something calm and conscious in the air. By redesigning the spa lounge, reception and all treatment rooms, it was important to us to create a character that was both astonishing and encouraging. Since individuality is paramount to us, it was important to us to create spaces of discretion for advice, but also offer opportunities for perspectives.

In October 2024, the second part - the sauna - continues. A nudist pool and other relaxation rooms are being built to create a 1:1 ratio between loungers and guests, a spa cinema and a large panoramic infusion sauna.

What is your focus when choosing wellness offers?

When choosing wellness or spa offers, we always pay attention to what effect this treatment should have. The “touch” principle is very important to us. Our highly qualified therapists have the freedom to use all their expertise with our guests and do not have to work strictly according to clear standards. Because one thing is certain — everyone is different and because we are committed to individuality, a high degree of flexibility is possible in all treatments.

It goes without saying that we rely on honest and genuine sustainability with our partners. The absolute naturalness of our products is mandatory. Since we rely on the expertise of the hands of our therapists, we refrain from using cosmetic equipment. In addition, we ensure that all treatments are compatible with our holistic approach, that spa does not stop at the spa, but can be experienced and felt in all areas of the house. There is a close connection between cuisine and spa in particular. It is only through the combination of sport & fitness, effective treatments and a “really conscious” diet that the true potential of a spa stay can unfold.

One of your offerings is HAKI Flow. Describe what's happening there.

"HAKI flow” is a very special treatment because it takes place in water. This means that the therapist treats the guest in the swimming pool. This special method was developed for top-heavy people. The feeling of floating in water gives you back a certain basic trust in order to let go and relax. Stretching and constant calm movement in the water create a feeling of security and deep relaxation. This treatment has a positive effect on sleep patterns. Sleep in particular is often the trigger for many topics in top-heavy people that have a negative impact on the quality of life.

You were nominated for the Wellness Aphrodite 2024 in the Wellness Cuisine category. What makes your kitchen stand out in particular?

Our cuisine has been different from typical wellness hotels for a long time. It is unusual that we have always not offered buffet-style food (with the exception of breakfast). You will therefore be looking in vain for a well-known salad and starter buffet here. Why We are convinced that people today spend too little time together anyway. Our restaurants should be a place where the aim is to experience something together and value this precious time. Only a few people celebrate sitting together at a table for two hours and enjoying the moment in their everyday lives. That is why our guests are catered for from start to finish.

Building on this, we base ourselves on the “Blue Zones” and their findings when processing, preparing and combining foods. The result is a cuisine that is nutritionally correct and healthy at its core, without making much sacrifices or even focusing on a specific diet. With our kitchen, we can promote sleep in a positive sense and the effectiveness of treatments.

What is planned for the future?

In autumn 2024, the existing sauna area will be completely renovated and supplemented by a new building with an outdoor pool and spa cinema. New gastronomic projects are also pending. A new gourmet restaurant is being planned. We are all excited and looking forward to the future!
